Maximum points for Supersport United

Supersport United scored maximum points when they beat Bloemfontein Celtic 1-0 in a Castle Premiership tie played at the Seisa Ramabodu Stadium on Wednesday.

There was no score at half-time.

United’s Dikgang Mabalane atoned for his failure in the first half when he scored in the 52nd minute, tapping in a clinical pass from Ticotico Bucuane, who bypassed two Celtic defenders before laying off.

The goal followed a neat move started by Sibusiso Mahlangu down the right, where Celtic were most vulnerable throughout the match.

A few minutes later, Tsietsi Mahoa failed dismally to increase the lead to 2-0, when he missed a cross from Bucuane with goalkeeper Vincent Ongandzi beaten.

The second stanza was pretty much as the first, given that the strikers of both teams fired blanks.

United strikers Lungisani Ndlela and Tony Tsabedze missed numerous opportunities, while Phunya Selesele’s faithful stood in disbelief when Jurry Merahe, Moses Spandeel and Collins Chabalala all failed to score with United goalkeeper Calvin Marlin miles off his goal line.

The highlights of this game were the issuing of yellow cards by referee Abdul Ebrahim — eight in all — with five going to United and the balance to Celtic. — Sapa
