A teacher was found stabbed to death on the grounds of Swayimane High School in Wartburg on Wednesday, apparently after an argument over school fees, KwaZulu-Natal Midlands police said on Thursday.
The 47-year-old teacher had been stabbed in the neck, said police spokesperson Superintendent Joshua Gwala.
Three men were earlier seen entering the school grounds, and were heard arguing with him about school fees.
They were seen leaving shortly before the teacher’s body was discovered at about 7.40pm.
KwaZulu-Natal education department spokesperson Christi Naude said on Thursday that a commission of inquiry into safety at schools has been appointed following several attacks on pupils and teachers in KwaZulu-Natal.
She said in several instances the attacks on teachers were linked to personal relationship problems.
Naude said at this stage the department does not have an up-to-date list of the number of attacks on teachers and pupils since the start of the year.
The department said on Thursday that details of its new Adopt-a-Cop programme at schools will be unveiled after the Easter holiday break. — Sapa
