Nigerian man jumps to his death during police raid

A 33-year-old Nigerian man died when he jumped out of a 10th-floor flat in Sunnyside during a police search for drugs on Thursday morning, Pretoria police said.

Police spokesperson Inspector Anton Breedt said two other men were arrested after police found a matchbox containing 12 cocaine ”rocks” at about 4am. It was hidden between cardboard boxes and sheets of plastic covering a broken window in the lounge.

”While police were searching the flat, one of the men ran to a bedroom and jumped from the window. He died at the scene.”

Breedt said the drugs were worth about R1 000.

Breedt said police are investigating whether the three Nigerian nationals are legal immigrants.

The men are between the ages of 30 and 35. – Sapa
