Boks beat Thailand 77-0 at Singapore Sevens

South Africa opened their defence of their Singapore Sevens title in style when they beat minnows Thailand 77-0 at the national stadium in Singapore on Saturday.

Playing in muggy conditions, the Boks ran in 11 tries to set the highest winning margin in the IRB Sevens series this year.

Spurred on by the added pace in their side, the Boks scored as early as the 34th second when Danwell Demas streaked down the sideline. This was followed by tries by Jaco Pretorius (2), Tobela Mdaka, Marius Schoeman, Mzwandile Stick (2), Jose van Rendburg (2), another for Demas and a late try by Jongikhaya Nokwe to start the

day off in style.

The Boks face tougher opposition later in the day when they come up against France and World Champions Fiji in the tournament’s ”pool of death”.

France gave the World Champions a scare when they came close to beating them in an earlier game. A last pass to Davy Larguet fell to ground in what would have been a certain try and it was plucked up by Mosese Yabakitini who ran the length of the field to give them a 28-17 victory. – Sapa
