Moroka Swallows, Jomo Cosmos, Bush Bucks and Mamelodi Sundowns all won their Premier Soccer League (PSL) matches on Sunday.
Swallows beat Lamontville Golden Arrows 2-0 in their hard-fought game at the Rand Stadium, while Cosmos escaped the chop by beating Bloemfontein Celtic 1-0 at the Seisa Ramabodu Stadium.
Bucks, who were tail-enders going into the game on Sunday, stunned Dynamos in their backyard at the Peter Mokaba Stadium with a 3-2 victory, while Sundowns overwhelmed Black Leopards with a 3-0 drubbing at Loftus Stadium.
Bucks are now placed 11th with 28 points from 26 matches, while Cosmos, who were second from the bottom, now occupy the 12th position.
In fact, Bucks and Cosmos have the same number of points, but are separated by their goal difference.
It was only Cosmos’ sixth win from 27 matches. Sundowns now breathe heavily behind PSL log leaders Orlando Pirates, in second position with 49 points.
Pirates, who boast 15 victories from 26 games, still top the table with 52 points. The Buccaneers lost 1-0 to Santos at Johannesburg Stadium on Saturday.
Sundowns have won 14 of their 27 games.
Swallows, who led 1-0 at interval, registered their 12th win but remained fourth.
Zimbabwean international striker Alois Ngwerume put Swallows ahead at the stroke of half-time. Arrows came close to cancelling his goal in the 54th minute, but Ashley Opperman cleared a sure equaliser with Swallows goalkeeper Conrad Hendricks a well-beaten man.
As if that save was not enough, Opperman was back in the spotlight 10 minutes later.
Ngwerume, who was on form, fired a thunderous shot that missed the target in the 71st minute. He made up for that miss when he completed his brace in the 71st minute. — Sapa
