Dynamos fight to keep their place

Dynamos made certain of keeping their place in the Premier Soccer League when they beat Ajax Cape Town by 3-0 at Newlands Stadium on Wednesday night.

The visitors from Giyani, who were placed 14th before the game, led 2-0 at the interval. Their victory catapults them to 10th spot, with 32 points from 29 matches. It was their seventh victory.

The Capetonians remain sixth on the standings after their 12th defeat, also from 29 matches. Ajax have amassed 40 points.

The hosts had territorial advantage, but for once Gordon Igesund’s youngsters could not score, while the ”Dynamites” played their hearts out — even though, at times, they were rough.

Dynamos opened the score in the fifth minute when Sandile Ndlovu ran past the defenders and easily beat goalkeeper Moeneeb Joseph.

In the 17th minute, Sinky Motlhajwa’s shot was blocked by Isaac Leshabane, and five minutes later, goalkeeper Arthur Bartman brought off a point-blank save from Perrora Fantein.

Dynamos doubled their score in the 37th minute when Vus’Umuzi Dlamini ran through and easily rounded Joseph to score.

Bartman again brought off an excellent save when he tipped Mfundo Shumane’s powerful shot over the bar.

The second half was played with pace and in the 66th minute, Klaas Galane scored Dynamos’ third goal. — Sapa
