Television station e.tv has been given the rights to broadcast the judgement in the fraud and corruption trial of businessman Schabir Shaik on Tuesday and Wednesday, National Prosecutions Authority spokesperson Makhosini Nkosi said on Sunday.
Other media will have to apply for accreditation to cover the trial in the Durban High Court, he said.
”It is a very small court and we do not want everybody showing up and not being able to be accommodated,” he said.
”We also do not want [single] news organisations sending 20 people into the court so we cannot ensure equitable seating.”
”Since e.tv has the rights [to televise it], we hope that should take away some of the pressure,” he added.
Nkosi said the South African Broadcasting Corporation will also be broadcasting the event, but will use e.tv’s feed. — Sapa
