The international animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) on Friday launched its annual “Who is the Sexiest Vegetarian?” online poll to promote the vegetarian lifestyle.
In a news release, the Virginia-based group listed the front-runners in this year’s contest. The winner will be announced in July.
Poll results so far have shown that showbiz stars continue to lead the vegetarian movement for ethical, health and environment reasons.
Taiwan singer/actress Barbie Hsu Hsi-yuan, better known as “Big S,” Elva Hsiao Ya-hsuan and Hong Kong model/actress Lee Mei-chi [Maggie Q] had the most votes from Chinese voters.
Indian hunky film star Amitabh Bachchan and Filipina model Isabel Roces also stood out among Asia’s sexiest vegans.
In the overall poll, current American idol winner Carrie Underwood is in the lead over Avril Lavigne and Gwyneth Palthrow.
For men, Batman Begins‘ star Christian Bale is leading over Samuel L. Jackson and Coldplay’s Chris Martin.
Peta launched its “Who Is the Sexiest Vegetarian Alive?” contest in the US last year and made it a worldwide event this year as the vegetarian movement is becoming popular in more and more countries.
“Celebrities are shunning meat faster than you can say ‘tofu,'” said Peta Asia-Pacific Director Jason Baker in the news release, referring to the cheese-like curd made from soybean.
“After all, what is sexier than someone who is both passionate and compassionate?” he asked. ‒Sapa-DPA
