The South African Commercial, Catering and Allied Workers Union (Saccawu) on Wednesday said that up to 30 000 Pick ‘n Pay employees are expected to take part in a nationwide strike action from Friday.
Saccawu spokesperson Dumisani Dlakile said that wage negotiations with management deadlocked after mediation.
“We are only negotiating for Pick ‘n Pay workers and not for other retailers,” he said.
The trade union served notice of the strike on Tuesday after six months of wage negotiations ended in a deadlock.
Saccawu is demanding a R400 pay increase while the company is offering workers an increase of R310 per month.
The trade union said that it still remained committed to finding a settlement.
