Renosi Denise Mokate has been appointed deputy governor of the Reserve Bank, the office of President Thabo Mbeki announced on Thursday.
Having been chairperson and chief executive of the Financial and Fiscal Commission (FCC) since July 2004, she is a former chief executive of the Central Energy Fund.
Motake was previously associated with the Human Sciences Research Council, the Centre for Reconstruction and Development at Pretoria University and the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA).
”She holds the position of extraordinary professor in the department of economics at the University of Pretoria. She has also held teaching posts in areas such as economics and business administration at Lincoln University and the University of New York,” the presidency said.
Motake also holds a number of honours and awards, and has delivered papers and published widely.
Her appointment is for five years, effective from the beginning of next month.
The office of the president further announced that Bethuel Setai would fill the position as chair of the FFC.
An economist for 26 years, Setai will bring to this post considerable expertise as an independent consultant specialising in areas of economic analysis, capacity building, integrated development projects, governance and public/private industry
transformation, the statement read.
Setai’s appointment runs from August 1, 2005 to July 31, 2010. – Sapa
