Wage talks between the SA Revenue Service (Sars) and the National Education, Health and Allied Workers Union (Nehawu) deadlocked on Wednesday.
Sars spokesperson Tasneem Carrim said the two parties held a formal dispute meeting between Sars management, the union and an independent third party.
”Today’s [Wednesday] meeting unfortunately produced no resolution and another formal dispute meeting has been scheduled for next week,” said Carrim.
The latest meeting followed three months of unsuccessful meetings between Sars and Nehawu.
In May, Nehawu demanded an 8,2% wage increase and a pay progression of five percent of basic salary.
As it stands, Nehawu has dropped its demand to 7,3% while Sars has raised its 4,5% to six.
On Tuesday, Nehawu general secretary Fikile Majola said another strike was on the cards if the matter could not be resolved soon.
He estimated that if the strike was supported by the Public Servants Association, there would be a total of around 10 000 strikers.
The strike will take place around August 25, probably lasting no longer than two days.
Meanwhile, Carrim said Sars would continue to engage with the unions over the next two weeks to reach a resolution as soon as possible. – Sapa
