Pirates advance in Supa 8

Orlando Pirates advanced to the next stage of the Supa 8 when they hammered Silver Stars 2-0 in the quarterfinal game played at the Absa Stadium, in Durban, on Saturday night.

There was no score at interval.

The first goal for the Buccaneers was headed home by marksman Lelo Mbele in the 51st minute. Isaac Chanca increased the lead in the 83rd minute after receiving an excellent cross ball from Lebogang ”Cheeseboy” Mokoena.

The final nail in Stars’ coffin came through Perry Mutapa in the 87th minute.

Mutapa was on the field for only three minutes after replacing Mokoena in the 84th minute.

Maximum points for Arrows

Meanwhile, Lamontville Golden Arrows collected maximum points when they beat Dynamos 3-0 in a Castle Premiership encounter played at Kings Park Soccer Stadium, also in Durban, on Saturday afternoon.

The home side led 1-0 at interval thanks to a goal by Thokozani ”Mzekezeke” Mshengu in the 45th minute. He got the ball from hard-working midfielder Papi Zothwane.

Zothwane increased the lead in 66th minute.

Dynamos pushed forward in numbers after this goal, but their efforts were let down by their strikers, especially Mhlonishwa Mbambo, who missed the sitter in the 79th minute.

Mshengu completed his brace on the 85th minute after collecting an excellent pass from Zothwane. — Sapa
