Three top officials of the Food and Allied Workers Union (Fawu) have been suspended and may be prosecuted while the union’s dismissed general secretary would be reinstated, Fawu said on Tuesday.
The national executive committee (NEC) decided to suspend Patrick Johnson, Barry Stemmet and Priscilla Kekana in their respective capacities as president, deputy general secretary and second vice president, a statement read.
”The NEC further resolved to institute disciplinary action against the three and where possible, press criminal charges and pursue civil action as they have infringed on the union’s Constitution and subsequently brought the union into disrepute.
The union said it had uncovered a conspiracy to suspend and dismiss general secretary Katishi Masemola, and said there had been unauthorised expenditure.
Masemola was expected to go the Cape High Court on Tuesday for an application relating to the costs of a successful court application challenging his dismissal.
The union said the latest decisions were made in the presence of Congress of SA Trade Unions office bearers over the weekend. – Sapa
