Not enough grilling at Breyton Paulse’s restaurant

Police say too much partying and not enough eating has been taking place at Breyton Paulse’s restaurant in Stellenbosch, and it has been shut down, The Cape Times reported on Monday.

The restaurant, called The Rib and Grill, is part-owned by Springbok wing Breyton Paulse.

Police spokesperson Inspector Ruben Klassen said when the establishment first opened it was used as a restaurant but it has been changed into a night club.

”When we inspected the premises on August 5 you could see that the kitchen had not been used in weeks,” said Klassen.

He said chairs and tables had been moved around to make room for a dance floor.

Inspector Norman Davids, who deals with pub and restaurant licences for the Stellenbosch police, was quoted earlier this week as saying: ”We saw people were not eating there. They were just drinking while music played very loudly. We told the manager to get his house in order but he did not comply and we decided to close the place down.”

Klassen said the establishment had a restaurant licence, not a night club licence.

The police had not received complaints about the Rib and Grill, said Klassen, they were simply conducting a routine inspection.
