Striking CCMA staff accept wage offer

Staff at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) on Monday accepted a 7% pay rise.

The CCMA staff members went on strike last Wednesday, demanding a 6% salary increase (which rose by 1% after mediation) and equal pay for work of equal value.

”The strike has been officially called off and workers will be returning to work tomorrow, September 20 2005,” said Thulani Dube, the Commission Staff Association’s (CSA) president.

”The CSA members across all provinces met and considered the offer and have accepted the offer made by management on September 18 2005, consisting of a 7% across-the-board increase.”

On the issue of equal pay for work of equal value, he said the issue ”will be investigated by a technical task team of three a side”.

”The committee will make recommendations to the forum of national office-bearers of the CSA and management, who will finally decide on the recommendations made,” Dube said. — Sapa
