Bush Bucks coach Professor Ngubane dropped a bombshell on Wednesday when he announced his resignation following a string of poor results.
The announcement came ahead of Bucks’ crucial Premier Soccer League game against Ajax Cape Town at Athlone Stadium on Wednesday night and followed days of heated meetings with Bucks’ directors, who were obviously fed up with a string of poor results.
Although Ngubane was hailed as a messiah by the East London club’s supporters after saving them from relegation last season, he became a villain this season when he failed to win a single game in six matches.
Bucks have only collected three points from six games and are now second from the bottom ahead of the clash against Ajax.
There had been reports that Ngubane was to be fired after the Ajax match, regardless of its outcome. On hearing of his imminent dismissal, Ngubane refused to travel with the club to Cape Town to the match against Ajax, saying he was ill and had been booked off work by a doctor, because he was under a lot of stress.
In a statement released by Bucks, Ngubane was cited as having decided to leave the club to give the directors a chance to find ”somebody who would be luckier than me”.
”I have shared this view [resignation] with my family and the club’s directors. The directors have tried to influence my decision, but I felt it was in the best interest of the club’s survival.”
Ngubane’s two assistants, William Mugeyi and Tauya Mrewa, will be in charge of the club for the Ajax Cape Town match. — Sapa
