Nigerian militia fighters have seized and shut down a Chevron oil flow-station, a militia leader said.
The militia has threatened to shut down oil operations in the southern Niger delta — where most of Opec member Nigeria’s crude is produced — unless its leader, Moujahid Dokubo-Asari, is released from detention. Police say Dokubo-Asari will be charged with treason.
”We have taken Idama flow station and it has been shut down,” said Alali Horsefall, the deputy leader of militia group the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force.
A security official n Nigeria confirmed the flow station had been overrun, and said the militants disarmed six soldiers.
Chevron officials could not immediately be reached for comment.
Horsefall said his fighters were on their way to take over seven other flow stations.
”We will blow up everything. We will set fire to them,” he said, adding that an army helicopter was circling above Idama. – Sapa-AP
