A 24-year-old United States citizen was found murdered at a Pretoria school
on Saturday, police said on Monday.
Edward Rector was found in a classroom at the Ubuntu Private School in Boschkop on Saturday morning, Inspector Anton Breedt said.
He appeared to have been struck with a blunt object and an ambulance was summoned, but he was pronounced dead.
Police believed the motive was robbery. Beeld reported that Rector was from Suwanee, Georgia, and was undergoing Christian missionary training.
He had been in South Africa for about four weeks and was part of a group of about 40 students from Zimbabwe, the US, Mozambique, Namibia and South Africa who were undergoing training in dance, music and drama at the training centre in Donkerhoek, east of Pretoria.
Flaps van der Merwe, director of 13th Floor centre, said Rector was working in the centre’s computer room when robbers attacked him and made off with two computers, according to the newspaper. – Sapa
