M&G Media names new publishing MD

M&G Media, owner of the Mail & Guardian newspaper, announced on Wednesday that Jason Zeelie has been appointed as the group’s managing director of publishing with effect from November 1.

Most recently, Zeelie has worked at Independent Newspapers, where he was Gauteng retail and special projects advertising manager. He has amassed a wealth of experience and began his career in the print industry as private advertising sales manager for SA Auto Trader.

An entrepreneur by instinct, Zeelie was owner and publisher of Stroke 1 Publishing, which secured a number of titles.

In addition, Zeelie was general manager of Junk Mail, the highly successful classified-advertisement publishing company.

“We are very excited to have Zeelie join our team. His energy is just what the company now needs to take its various titles to the next level of success and to capitalise on an unprecedented consumer boom.

“We are confident that Zeelie will provide strong and professional leadership to our sales team, and will strengthen the revenue-generating capabilities of the organisation. We welcome him on board and to the executive team of the M&G,” said M&G Media’s chief executive, Trevor Ncube.

Zeelie’s appointment follows the resignation of Garry Rogers from this position. Rogers resigned at the end of September after he had been suspended pending disciplinary action that had been brought against him. The action related to various charges of misconduct that had resulted in a breakdown in relations between him and members of the executive management team.

“We thank Garry for the role he played in the turnaround of the M&G and wish him luck in his future endeavours,” said Ncube.
