Two injured in Jo’burg traffic shooting

Two people in a Toyota were slightly injured when a man in a white BMW opened fire on them while they were stationary at a robot on Friday, Johannesburg police said.

Captain Schalk Bornman said the incident occurred in Marlboro Drive at about 11.15am.

”The incident happened near the N3 off-ramp. A white Toyota Run-X had just driven into Marlboro Drive from the N3 when a white BMW tried to force the car off the road,” said Bornman.

”Shots were then fired from the BMW at the two people in the Run-X. There were about four people in the BMW. They fled the scene after the shooting.”

Police have established that the Run-X was transporting money for a financial institute.

Bornman said police believe the attackers were after the money.

He said the driver of the Run-X and the passenger — a man and woman aged between 28 and 30 — sustained minor injuries to their heads.

They were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Police are investigating a case of attempted murder, said Bornman. — Sapa
