Three in court over kidnapping of boy

Three men appeared in the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court on Monday charged with the kidnapping of 10-year-old Liam Aspeling last week, Gauteng police said.

The boy was snatched from the front of his mother’s home in Ennerdale on Tuesday. He was found, reportedly by a private investigator, in a house in nearby Freedom Park and reunited with his family on Wednesday.

Two men from Soweto and one from Kliptown were taken in for questioning on Friday.

Police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Mary Martins-Engelbrecht said no further information can be made available at this stage.

The investigation is continuing and more arrests are expected, she said.
