Wins for Supersport, Silver Stars and Sundowns

Supersport United beat Golden Arrows 1-0 in a Premier Soccer League (PSL) match played at Super Stadium in Pretoria on Sunday afternoon.

Supersport led 1-0 at half-time.

With both goalkeepers, Arrows’ Gareth Ormshaw and Supersport’s Calvin Marlin, in sublime form, goals were hard to come by. But it was the home side’s Tony Tsabedze who managed to breach Ormshaw’s defences eventually in the 22nd minute after being set up by Katlego Mphela.

Supersport now move to 10th position on the log, while Arrows occupy fifth spot.

Stars beat Leopards

Silver Stars beat a 10-man Black Leopards 1-0 in a PSL match played at the Nkowa Nkowa Stadium in Tzaneen on Sunday afternoon.

Owen da Gama’s charges led 1-0 at half-time via the boot of striker Katlego Mashego, who opened the scoring in the 12th minute.

Leopards’ problems were compounded when midfielder Jabulani Maluleke was shown the red card on the stroke of half-time by referee Ace Ngcobo for a messy tackle on Stanley Kgatla.

Da Gama and Leopards coach Mutombo Kalambay made several substitutions in the second half, but the status quo of the game remained the same to the final whistle.

Stars now move from position 11 to seven on the log with 14 points, while Leopards drop from seventh position to eight on 13 points.

Sundowns hammer Classic

Sundowns hammered Tembisa Classic 3-0 in a pulsating PSL encounter played at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Johannesburg on Sunday afternoon.

The visitors led 2-0 at the interval.

The first goal of this entertaining game came in the 35th minute via Surprise Moriri, who headed in Godfrey Sapula’s well-taken free kick just outside the box — this after Brazilians attacking midfielder, Manqoba ”Shakes” Ngwenya, was fouled by Japie Motale.

Sundowns increased the lead two minutes later when Josta Dladla converted Esrom Nyandoro’s corner kick. Classic’s defence tried to clear Nyandoro’s corner, but the ball went straight to Josta, whose powerful shot gave Classic goalie Aime Kitenge no chance. In the 45th minute, Moriri’s shot was well saved by Kitenge.

In the 65th minute, Dladla completed his brace when he finished a move started by workaholic midfielder Sapula.

In a bid to get back into the game, Classic introduced Mpho Rashete and Obinna Okafo for Molefi Ntsoelengoe and Luntu Mazana in the 67th minute respectively, but they could do little to change the course of the game. — Sapa
