Real Madrid appealed on Tuesday against the red card issued to David Beckham for applauding after he had been booked.
Referee Arturo Dauden Ibanez wrote in his report after Madrid lost 2-1 against Valencia that ”Beckham was behaving in a mocking way after being reprimanded”.
”The judicial services of Real Madrid analysed the video of the game along with various photographs and will appeal to show David Beckham’s actions in no way were disrespectful of Dauden Ibanez,” Madrid said in a statement on its website.
Unless the appeal is successful, Beckham will be suspended for Wednesday’s league game against Deportivo La Coruna.
The England midfielder was also sent off playing for England against Austria in a European qualifier on October 8.
Madrid is third in the league with 15 points from eight games. – Sapa-AP
