IFP Youth Brigade upset over dissolved municipality

The Inkatha Freedom Party Youth Brigade has vowed to make the area of Abaqulusi ungovernable, following the dissolution of the municipality last week.

On Monday, youth-brigade leader Thulasizwe Buthelezi warned that the people of Abaqulusi have not yet burnt tyres in the streets as happened in other municipalities with the African National Congress at the helm.

KwaZulu-Natal local government minister Mike Mabuyakhulu announced last week that the IFP-led municipality was in a chaotic state and that he had decided to fire its management.

Fifteen councillors were axed from the Abaqulusi municipality, in which the main town is Vryheid.

”We call upon Mabuyakhulu not to treat the people of Abaqulusi as a political yo-yo for his amusement,” said Buthelezi, adding: ”Mabuyakhulu is not God. We will not allow democracy to be crushed by the insatiable appetite for power of the ANC.”

Tension between the IFP and the ANC flared up recently at the University of Zululand, about 150km from Vryheid. — Sapa
