Maximum points for Arrows

Lamontville Golden Arrows collected maximum points when they beat Ajax Cape Town 2-0 in a Castle Premiership encounter played at King Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

The home side led 1-0 at the interval thanks to a beautiful strike by Musa Sishi in the 30th minute, to the delight of Abafana Besthende’s fans who arrived in numbers to support their side.

Sishi scored after receiving an excellent pass from Kabamba Chintu, who won the ball in the middle of the park.

In the 56th minute, Sishi made the way for dazzling midfielder Papi Zothwane, who created many chances for the KwaZulu-Natal outfit.

Zothwane missed a chance to increased the lead in the 84th minute when his shot went straight to Ajax goalkeeper Andrew Petinn.

Two minutes later, Zothwane came up with a brilliant pass that found Thokozani ”Mzekezeke” Mshengu, who made no mistake to seal the victory for Arrows.

The visitors had their chances but were let down by poor finishing, especially by Brent Evans.

Swallows beat Cosmos

Moroka Swallows beat Jomo Cosmos 2-0 in a fast and entertaining Premier Soccer League game played at the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto on Wednesday afternoon.

Swallows striker Mame Niang gave Cosmos plenty of food for thought when he consistently broke through their line in search of goals, showing superb skill and a never-say-die spirit.

He was rewarded for his hard work when he beat Cosmos goalkeeper Avril Phali with a low shot in the 29th minute.

Niang then completed his brace on the stroke of half-time to take his team into the interval two goals clear.

Jomo Sono, who might come to the rescue of Bafana Bafana as caretaker coach following the resignation of Stuart Baxter this week, made several changes in the second half as his team searched for an elusive goal.

Swallows’ defence — in particular goalkeeper Greg Etafia — were more than equal to the task throughout the 90 minutes.

It was a sad afternoon for Sono and his team after their recent 2-0 win over powerhouse Kaizer Chiefs in the Coca-Cola Cup quarterfinals and the 3-0 win over Supersport United in the league.

Swallows coach Gavin Hunt was a happy man after his team collected maximum points from this potentially difficult task to move from fourth to third on the log with 22 points. — Sapa
