Paulse to bolster Bok defence

Veteran wing Breyton Paulse was recalled to the South African line-up to play France at the Stade de France in Chantilly on Saturday.

He and fellow veteran Os du Randt are the only two changes to the side that beat Wales 33-16 in Cardiff last Saturday.

Paulse wins his 55th cap at the expense of Conrad Jantjes, while Du Randt comes in for Lawrence Sephaka, who is dropped from the 22 completely.

South African coach Jake White said Paulse was an automatic choice.

”This defensive system has been based around Breyton. When I think of all the tackles he has made saving tries, which we have then turned round into scoring tries ourselves, there was no debate about his selection.”

White also is relieved that fullback Percy Montgomery is able to play after winning his appeal against one of the two yellow cards he picked up against Wales.

”Obviously with a player of Montgomery’s experience it is an advantage to have him in the side. However, it has set us back because he missed training yesterday and today as he was in London for the appeal.” — Sapa-AFP
