More tourists robbed at Waterval Boven

Two more tourists were robbed at gunpoint at Waterval Boven in Mpumalanga, South African Broadcasting Corporation radio news reported on Thursday.

”Two armed men walked into a restaurant where the tourists and a baby were dining and robbed them of all their belongings,” the report said.

Last week, two tourists were stripped of a cellphone, a camera and cash at Waterval Boven.

The two tourists and their tour guide were walking through the historic Zasm railway tunnel near the town.

The pair were taking video footage when two armed men accosted them.

”They told them to lie on the ground. They were searched, one digital camera, a cellphone and R60 was taken,” said police spokesperson Malcolm Mokomene.

Earlier this month, 11 campers were robbed at gunpoint at Waterval Boven.

Police said the campers were all members of the Exploration Society of Southern Africa, on a weekend trip to the area.

They were having supper at the Elandskrans camp site at Waterval Boven when two men, one with a gun, arrived.

The robbers took equipment worth more than R30 000, including a laptop and cellphones. Wallets were also taken.

The group included a number of climbers and a baby. No one was hurt in the robbery. — Sapa
