Lethabong residents protest road conditions

Residents barricaded a street in Lethabong near Rustenburg on Wednesday to protest the condition of roads in the area, said police.

They blocked part of Seripe Street near Noka ya Lerato Primary School with rocks and dug trenches across the road, said North West police spokesperson Captain Thabo Makhafola.

They were trying to get the Rustenburg municipality’s attention, he said.

”Today [Thursday] the municipality responded and sent a grader to sweep the road.

”The municipality said they did not have enough money to repair the road this year and promised that they will repair the road accordingly next year,” said Makhafola.

He said no one was arrested or injured during the protest and that residents dispersed peacefully when the municipal workers arrived. — Sapa
