Teenager fined R20 000 for speeding in KZN

A Pretoria teenager caught speeding at 196kph on the N2 southbound near Park Rynie on KwaZulu-Natal’s southcoast was fined R20 000, the province’s traffic department spokesperson said on Saturday.

Rajen Chinaboo said 19-year-old Nicholas Johannes Coetzee from the University of Pretoria was caught at a speed of 196kph in a 120kph zone while on holiday on Thursday.

”When officers caught the teenager he said he was trying out his mother’s new BMW 320d. He was arrested, given bail of R5 000 and told to appear in court on Friday.”

Chinaboo said the youngster appeared in the Scottsborough Magistrate’s Court on Friday was found guilty and fined R20 000 by the magistrate. – Sapa
