A South African model and aspiring actress raped in the Indian city of Mumbai might have been the victim of a blue-movie trick, News24 reported on Wednesday.
An Indian newspaper reported that the men who admitted to raping the 27-year-old daughter of a Durban businessman might have filmed the whole incident on high-quality cellphones.
The girl was drugged, kidnapped and repeatedly raped last Tuesday.
According to the Mumbai daily Mid Day, a friend of the victim said Suresh Krishnani and Sunil Morpani, who were arrested in connection with the rape at the weekend, had ”hi-tech camera phones” with them.
Apparently the South African saw one of the men using something that looked like a camera when she woke up in a third-rate hotel room on the day after she had been kidnapped.
The paper alleged that she was assaulted after she had complained about the camera being used.
According to reports, the police believe that Morpani, an agent for models and actors, knew his victim. She apparently had handed him her portfolio in the hope that he would land her a modelling contract.
It was reported on Tuesday that the police were looking for a third suspect. They were also planning to question the owner of the hotel where the woman had been drugged.
The police have already confiscated Krishani’s car in which the woman was also reportedly raped before she was taken to the hotel.
The two suspects will again appear in court on Friday.
The young South African apparently arrived in Mumbai from Durban in September in search of fame in Bollywood. — Sapa
