Metal pioneers Metallica will be in South Africa in March to perform in one of the biggest international music festivals the country has so far seen.
The United States group are the sixth international act to confirm their attendance of the festival, with youth icon Karen Zoid, Fokofpolisiekar and Sitter already added to the local line-up, organisers said on Wednesday.
The 12-hour Coca-Cola Colab Massive Mix festival kicks off in Centurion on March 18, and then heads to Durban on March 21 and Cape Town on March 25.
A diverse line-up has already been announced. Artists include Simple Plan, Collective Soul, The Rasmus, Seether, renowned DJ and producer Fatboy Slim, Prime Circle, The Finkelstiens, The Parlotones, Flat Stanley, State Far Better and the SpoonFeedas.
Metallica — who have been around for more than two decades after being Metallica formed in California in 1981 by Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield — have released 11 albums selling more than 200-million copies worldwide, making them the most successful heavy-metal act in history.
The band have toured extensively, playing alongside heavyweights such as Ozzy Osbourne, Van Halen and Guns N’ Roses.
Metallica recently announced they are working on material for a new album that should be out in 2006 or 2007 — their first since 2003’s St Anger.
