The National Prosecuting Authority said on Friday that it has decided not to prosecute the son of a British-diplomat who was accused of rape.
”Having considered all the statements and the evidence, the NPA has decided not to prosecute in this matter, as there is no reasonable prospect of a successful prosecution,” Makhosini Nkosi, NPA spokesperson, said.
A 17-year-old Johannesburg girl, on holiday in Cape Town, reportedly laid the rape charge against the son of a diplomat. It is understood that the complainant laid charges against her 21-year-old alleged attacker in the early hours of New Year’s Day after two alleged incidents of rape earlier the evening.
Police conducted an investigation in consultation with the National Director of Public Prosecution’s office, and the NPA is satisfied that the investigation was full and thorough.
”The investigation was also conducted in consultation with the complainant and the relevant witnesses,” Nkosi said.
He said media reports, both local and foreign, purporting to contain details relating to the rape allegations and the surrounding circumstances contained numerous inaccuracies. — Sapa
