Three briefly in court for murder of Daewoo boss

Three shabbily dressed men appeared in the Randburg Regional Court on Monday for the 1999 murder of Young Koo Kwon, the local president of the Daewoo Motor Corporation.

Thomas Tshabalala (28), Bheki Simelani (29) and Mokwa Sedikane (32) were not asked to plead.

Kwon (49) was found dead in his car in the driveway of his Sandton home on February 3 1999. Nothing had been taken from the vehicle.

Magistrate George Andrews ordered that Sedikane have the chance to apply for legal aid.

Sedikane and Simelani stood in the dock with their arms folded during the appearance, which lasted only a few minutes. Tshabalala had a long scar on his forehead.

When Andrews asked Tshabalala and Simelani about their legal representation, Tshabalala responded: ”We have no attorneys.”

According to the charge sheet, Tshabalala and Simelani are from Vlakfontein. Sedikane’s address was not known.

The case was postponed to February 13 for further investigation.
