Taxman swoops on Roger Kebble

The SA Revenue Service (SARS) this week seized possessions of mining tycoon Roger Kebble, including three of his homes, a 47-foot yacht, luxury cars, a piano, paintings, antiques and firearms, the Sunday Times reports.

The action — to reclaim R62-million in outstanding payments — follows a Johannesburg High Court order granted last November after Kebble repeatedly failed to declare his real income over the past decade, according to the report.

Kebble was quoted by the paper as saying ”it’s done”, and that he was pleased the matter had been resolved.

He would not be drawn on details of his agreement with the SARS. SARS spokesperson Adrian Lackay told the paper the Income Tax Act precluded him from commenting on cases.

Kebble’s possessions are now, to all intents and purposes, owned by the tax man and he is not allowed to sell anything, the report read. He is also credit listed, it added.
