A crane driver in the northern Dutch town of Drachten has been summarily sacked for sending his twin brother to work in his place, the daily Telegraaf reported on Thursday.
The ruse went undetected for years at the company Sterk Heiwerken, where the unnamed crane driver had worked since the mid-1990s.
The deception came to light when the man was held by police for drunken driving. Instead of giving his own name, he gave officers that of a colleague at the company.
When his employer discovered what he had done, management said he would be fired. At that point, he revealed that not only he, but also his brother, would be affected.
He was told to leave the premises immediately, and the decision was later confirmed by the courts.
The company declined to comment on the affair.
”What has happened, has happened, and we are moving on,” a spokesperson told the Telegraaf. — Sapa-dpa
