The South African Football Association (Safa) technical committee has been mandated to ”secure” a coach for Bafana Bafana by mid-April. This was revealed on Monday night by Safa CEO Raymond Hack after a protracted meeting of the association’s executive.
”Securing a coach will not necessarily mean the choice will be announced by mid-April,” said Hack. ”It is possible he will be under contract at that time and would not like to reveal his future plans. We would fall in line with such an arrangement if required.”
Hack said that while the technical committee will recommend the choice of the Bafana coach or submit a shortlist, the final choice will still need to be rubber-stamped by the full Safa executive.
Monday’s meeting also studied reports from coach Ted Dumitru, technical committee chairperson Sturu Pasiya and head of delegation Mubarak Mahomed on Bafana’s ill-fated African Nations Cup campaign in Egypt.
”We need to consult with the PSL [Premier Soccer League] about several of the recommendations,” said Hack, ”with an announcement if the suggestions are accepted in about 10 days.” — Sapa
