For the manne down at the Dorsbult Bar, swimmer Roland Schoeman is something of a superhero. But when he appeared on News24 this week, Lemmer suddenly noticed a nasty likeness to Willem Dafoe, aka the Green Goblin of Spider-Man fame. Is Roland destined for Tinseltown as the Green and Gold Goblin?
Germania rules the waves
Exercise Good Hope II, the month-long war games between South Africa and Germany that ended last week, pitted naval and air forces against an invisible foe, somewhere in the Atlantic off the Cape Peninsula. The mission? Protecting ”a virtual Berlin from attack”. Lemmer is happy to report a victory: according to German naval officer Commander Eckhard Bödeker, ”Berlin was successfully defended.” No doubt old Allied veterans are kicking themselves. A naval attack on Berlin! Why, they could have shortened World War II by years just by sending a submarine to the Reichstag!
Momentous days
We believe in people who believe in themselves, said the Momentum Life television ad this week, as Graeme ”The Golden Child” Smith sat staring heroically into the middle distance at Lord’s. Ja well no fine, but that ad hasn’t been aired since about halfway through 2004, when Smith’s form deserted him. Clearly belief only lasts as long as you’re paying the rent.
Help yourself
To the outraged reader who addressed Oom Krisjan as a ”doosdief” for talking about fillems and not ”fillums”, thank you. The manne always have a good chuckle when the Volk expropriate words and then start insisting they know how they’re spelled.
This land is my land
It’s now common knowledge that eminent academic Professor Shadrak Gutto recommended that foreigners not be allowed to buy land in South Africa. But given that the professor is a Kenyan, did he go straight from his parliamentary briefing back home to the local Holiday Inn?
