Leopards nick Lions in Vodacom Cup

The Lions threw away a 14-0 halftime lead to eventually lose 15-14 to the Leopards in their Vodacom Cup match in Potchefstroom on Friday.

The Lions’ John Daniels and Dewey Swartbooi looked to have sealed the match for the visitors with their first half tries.

But a remarkable comeback by the Leopards saw Bertus Swanepoel and Colin Lloyd score while Anvor Schooney added a penalty and a conversion.

The win was enough to keep the Leopards within the top three on the log while the Lions have slipped even further into the danger zone.

In Witbank, Western Province also scored a narrow 15-14 victory over the Pumas in a match played in atrocious weather.

Western Province produced a tremendous second-half comeback, clawing their way back from an 11-0 deficit at halftime to take the win.

The Cheetahs claimed a hard-fought 20-14 victory over the Border Bulldogs in East London in the days other match.

The Cheetahs led 15-0 at the break and as was the case in the previous two matches, had to weather a stiff challenge from the Bulldogs in the second half. – Sapa
