Two Indian weightlifters test postive for drugs

Two Indian weightlifters have tested positive for banned substances at the Commonwealth Games and have been ordered to leave the athletes village, Indian team sources said Thursday.

Edwin Raju, who finished fourth in the men’s 56kg category, and Tejinder Singh, who withdrew from the men’s 85kg on Monday, tested positive to performance enhancing drugs just before the March 15-26 Games started.

”The two lifters have been told verbally that they have been caught for drug abuse. They have already left the Games village,” said an Indian team source.

The results however have not been officially released.

”We have not heard anything from the concerned authorities,” said the Indian team’s general manager Gurbir Singh. – Sapa-AFP
