Chiefs almost out of PSL title chase

Kaizer Chiefs’ chances of retaining their PSL title are looking slim after the champions played to a goaless draw against lowly Bush Bucks in a fast and entertaining match played at the FNB Stadium on Saturday night.

Chiefs strikers Gert Schalkwyk and Louis Ageymen were both guilty of failing to test Bucks goalkeeper Tampungu Dikete by missing the target on numerous occasions in both halves.

However, Dikete was severely tested in the 17th and 19th minutes by Schalkwyk, but the Bucks keeper pulled off two amazing saves.

Chiefs coach Ernst Midderdorp made a double substitution In the second half to try and break the deadlock, but Bucks’ defence stood fast. Dikete, together with the defence capabilities of Wellington Sambu, Jonathan Armogam and Simpiwe Mbambo frustrated the Chiefs waves of attack throughout.

The visitors had chances of their own on counter attacks, but the Chiefs defence of captain Cyril Nzama, Patrick Mayo and Simpiwe Mkhonza were equal to the task.

Chiefs have now dropped to third on the log with 47 points, with Pirates moving into second spot on 48 and Sundowns still leading on 50 points.

Bucks have only three games remaining to claw their way out of the relegation zone and are lying in position 13 with a meagre 28 points. – Sapa
