New Zealand took less than half an hour on Sunday morning to wrap up South Africa’s first innings in the first Castle Lager Test at Supersport Park. South Africa were all out for 276.
Resuming on 266 for eight, Nicky Boje and Dale Steyn shared a partnership of 41 runs — the highest ninth wicket partnership for South Africa at Supersport Park, passing the 37 runs put on by Hansie Cronje and Allan Donald against Australia in 1996/97. But their partnership ended when Boje was given out leg before wicket
to James Franklin for 23 in the fifth over of the day.
It was Franklin’s fourth wicket in the innings, and he was unlucky not to take five.
The rest of his over turned into something from the Keystone Cops, as Franklin’s second delivery to Makhaya Ntini hit the off-stump, but failed to dislodge the bail, and then Hamish Marshall — widely regarded as one of the best New Zealand fielders — dropped Dale Steyn at cover point, and it was left to Chris Martin to finish the job, when he had Steyn caught by Kyle Mills for 13 — his highest Test score. – Sapa
