Fifty-nine buses burn in KwaZulu-Natal

About 59 buses were set alight at a bus depot in Umlazi, south of Durban, at about 3.30am on Sunday, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

”The damage is estimated to [be] far over R20-million,” said spokesperson Captain Vincent Ndunge.

About 155 buses were on the site. Firefighters cordoned off the undamaged buses.

Private motor vehicles were also believed to have been damaged.

”Neither the cause nor the motive for the attack is known,” Ndunge said.

He said no acts of violence erupting at the bus depot were reported. No arrests or injuries were reported either.

”We will be flying in police experts from Pretoria to aid in the investigation.”
