Swedish journalists missing in Botswana

Authorities in Botswana were on Thursday still searching for two Swedish journalists reported missing after they set out on a road trip to a game reserve at the weekend and failed to return, according to news reports.

Helene Astrom and Jenny Soderqvist reportedly travelled to the Kutse game reserve in the Kalahari desert at the start of the weekend, planning to spend two days there. When they failed to return on Monday, concerned colleagues alerted park officials, who have been searching the vast area for the women and their rented vehicle.

The women, employees of Swedish public broadcaster SVT, had been assisting with the restructuring of public radio and television in the Southern African country, according to South Africa’s News24 website. — Sapa-dpa
