Security bosses are preparing Zuma’s rape accuser for a life in exile in another country, out of fear for her life in South Africa, the Sunday Times reported.
The decision to move the 31-year-old HIV-positive complainant abroad followed a ”high-level” security assessment undertaken by police officials, intelligence services and the witness protection programme.
Security around the alleged rape victim has been so tight that she was not placed in the witness protection programme out of fear for her safety, the newspaper reported.
A security assessment was made after her pictures were burnt outside the Johannesburg High Court and her Umlazi home in Durban was broken into twice since Zuma was charged with rape.
This prompted the decision that the woman was not safe in South Africa and would have to be moved outside the country.
She will not be present when Judge Willem van der Merwe delivers his verdict in the Johannesburg High Court on Monday.
Night vigil
A night vigil will be held ahead of the judgement, the newly-formed Friends of Jacob Zuma Coalition told reporters on Thursday. The vigil would be held at the Central Methodist Church near the Johannesburg High Court. It would start at 10pm on Sunday.
The Friends of Jacob Zuma Trust spokesperson Kaiser Mohau confirmed that Zuma would attend a concert to raise funds for him in Soweto on Sunday.
Zizi Kodwa, spokesperson for the African National Congress Youth League, which forms part of the coalition, said he did not know how many people would attend the vigil, nor a gathering outside the court during the judgement.
”We call on all the people of our country to join on this day so that together we defend the most important pillars of our Constitution and democratic institutions. We call on the youth, the students, the workers and the people in general to come in their numbers on Monday,” he said. – Sapa
