United States legal authorities have submitted an extradition request for Isaac Kwame Amuah, son-in-law of former president Nelson Mandela, the Sunday Times reported.
Amuah is a fugitive in the US after failing to appear in court on a rape charge dating back to 1993.
The extradition request comes after he allegedly failed to honour an undertaking to return to Hartford, Connecticut, six months ago.
Amuah said the alleged rape victim had tried to extort money from him after realising he was connected to the Mandela family.
He is married to Mandela’s eldest daughter, Makaziwe, the newspaper reported.
He is accused of raping a 34-year-old student and was arrested on May 20, 2003. – Sapa
