Cops in court after explicit pictures found on cellphone

Two Johannesburg Metro police officers were released on R2 000 bail on Tuesday after they were arrested for taking explicit photographs of a 16-year-old girl from Eldorado Park, Soweto, police said.

Von Dooms (22) and Chester Voughan (24) were arrested for contravening the Films and Publications Act at the beginning of May after the girl’s mother discovered the explicit photographs on her daughter’s cellphone, Gauteng police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Mary Martins-Engelbrecht said.

”We believe the suspects MMS’d (multi-media messaged) the photographs to the girl. Her mother discovered the photographs and called police and they were arrested on the same night.”

The men, who also reside in Eldorado Park, are believed to be neighbours of the girl. Police expected to make one more arrest.

Meanwhile the girl was admitted into the police’s witness protection programme and was receiving counselling.

Martins-Engelbrecht did not comment on whether the girl willingly allowed the photographs of her to be taken.

Investigations into the case was expected to continue. – Sapa
