Botswana qualify for Bafana clash

Two goals midway through the second half in the space of two minutes propelled Botswana to a 2-0 Cosafa Cup win over Madagascar at Botswana’s National Stadium on Saturday afternooon and a place in Sunday’s quarterfinal against Bafana Bafana.

Botswana was urged on by an enthusiastic crowd of 28 000 and was generally the more penetrative combination. They broke the deadlock in the 67th minute when Motyapeng Moatlhapinge burst through a packed goalmouth to guide the ball into the net from close-range.

And within seconds Khuno Mothibane virtually sealed the issue with a breathtaking headed goal that stunned the Madagascar defence.

This entertaining game contained more action and excitement for the enthusiastic crowd than the tepid opening fixture on the double-header programme — one in which Bafana battled to beat Swaziland 1-0. – Sapa
