Western Cape education minister Cameron Dugmore has suspended a Delft school principal after his arrest on charges of indecent assault and possession of child pornography, South African Broadcasting Corporation news reported on Thursday.
”The principal was given a letter of suspension earlier this [Thursday] afternoon, immediately suspending him of any responsibilities as the principal of the school,” Dugmore told the broadcaster.
Three parents laid indecent assault charges against the 57-year-old man who appeared in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
”We got hold of affidavits from the parents, after which the man was suspended with immediate effect,” said Dugmore.
He was arrested at his Kuilsrivier home on Tuesday night.
”We cannot divulge more on the contents of these allegations because the victims are minors and the investigation is at an early and very sensitive stage,” said police spokesperson Superintendent Billy Jones on Wednesday.
Police seized computers and cameras from the man’s house and at his school.
He was granted bail by a Bellville magistrate and the case was postponed to September 1. — Sapa
