Idols winner’s lover in court on murder charge

Idols winner Karin Kortje’s lover Cheslyn Williams made a brief appearance in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Monday charged with murdering Durbanville guest-house owner Renate Kellerman.

Magistrate David Tonisi postponed the case to July 24 to allow investigators to establish whether he has a criminal record. Williams (21), of Boksburg, is reportedly on parole, having served a prison sentence for car theft.

He indicated to the court that he will apply for legal aid. He remains in custody at the Goodwood prison.

He booked into the Le Petit Chateau guest house with Kortje last week as she had to take part in a commercial shoot.

Kellerman, the mother of two small children, ran the guest house in Plataan Street, Durbanville, with her husband, Wynand.

Kortje went out with a member of her management team, Jabu Mlotshwa, on Thursday night and returned to find Kellerman’s half-naked body, with multiple stab wounds, in a bedroom. Williams, who had not gone out with them, was missing.

Police later found Kellerman’s bakkie abandoned in Eerste River, on the Cape Flats. Williams was arrested on Friday. — Sapa
