Solidarity to embark on strike action

Trade union Solidarity announced on Monday that it will commence strike action at petrochemicals group Sasol on Tuesday morning at 6am.

“This follows after Solidarity held a mass meeting with members. During this meeting it transpired that the trade union’s members were unhappy with a number of issues, including the company’s attitude towards its workers,” Solidarity said.

“Solidarity has committed itself to finding a solution for workers’ wage dispute. Solidarity will not back down on this commitment. The matter will again be discussed with Sasol management and Solidarity’s members on Tuesday,” said Solidarity spokesperson Jaco Kleynhans.

“Negotiation is a process of give and take and a possible solution is normally just a day away. Solidarity is currently consolidating our members’ issues and it will be discussed with Sasol tomorrow [Tuesday],” Kleynhans added.

Solidarity is the largest trade union represented in Sasol, with nearly 5 000 members, the union said. — I-Net Bridge
